Last weekend the JBAA U14 Girls team travelled to Langley for a final sevens tournament of the season. It was an early start to the day on the 9 AM ferry. Excitement and nerves. Ferry-rides with no buffet.
Off the bus, hustle to gear-up, tape-up and warm-up. Onto the field against Langley, our primary antagonist. Big and tough team. JBAA girls moving the ball around from the opening whistle. Tries exchanged. Second half more of the same, but Langley tiring and JBAA passing starting to really click. 2 more excellent tries on the JBAA ledger. Langley comes back to score another near the end, but it's not enough. Final score 20-15
The games against United and Cowichan were not close like the first one. JBAA new recruits come into the game and immediately have an impact, each scoring multiple times. New captain each game, all of our girls doing all of the little things right. Many scoring their first tries, all of them setting up their team-mates with some impressive passing, running rugby.
A unique group of players, who have really raised the bar for coaches who already set it pretty high. We look forward to great things in the future from these players.
Congratulations AU Young Bears!
