Last Saturday, after the long trek up island to Cumberland, our Women’s team revisted the pitch where our season started, against a team that beat us in our first game as part of our newly re-formed senior women’s program.
We started the game FAST with two quick tries. That pace continued throughout the game as we showed off our youth, our vibrancy, and our tenacity… all qualities that helped us win our quarter final game and secure our place in the semi-finals.
Unfortunately, injuries, combined with scheduling issues, have made it impossible to field a full roster of players for the game. Jen, in consultation with the team, made the difficult decision to forgo the game.
Jen Ross has really taken this group of young women to the next level. Normally we see a huge attrition rate of players after they leave school, typically the majority of players! Not us, We have retained 90% of our U19 group from last fall. That is a massive change in direction for our game and our club.
Plans are in place to increase numbers and move the team up to the next division of play next season. We look forward to more from this group and are excited with how well the women’s program has advanced in a single season.
Congratulations to Jen and our women’s team for a great season.
