It all starts with an idea, a vision, and club member and long time Bay, Glenn Barlow, certainly came through with a winner in the form of a community event that featured spot prawns, fiddle music, and rugby. His crew from CCGF Events, along with many dedicated club members, showed up to help Glenn “build it and they will come” first-time festival. And indeed they DID come!
The fiddling started in the morning and continued throughout the day, interspersed with informal youth rugby 7’s matches in the musical breaks. We are grateful the very talented Daniel Lapp was able to put together a great line up of music and we very much enjoyed the parallels between the youth fiddling competition and the youth rugby that was featured; a true celebration of the future of both rugby and fiddling!
The weather was pretty much ‘spot’ on and the only thing to improve upon for next year (and one hopes there will be a next year) is to have more prawns and food available as those lines were loooooong. What doesn’t need any improvement at all was the community involvement and the opportunities for our club to engage with our neighbours.
We hope all our youth players, parents and coaches enjoyed the day and got a chance to meet Rob, our new Youth Coordinator. Many thanks to those that came out to support our club, either by volunteering your time or spending your money. Bay Days like this are only possible because so many of you show up.
One of the most requested items at our club booth was merchandise featuring the fiddling bear - is it possible we may have found a new club mascot?
We’ve started a Facebook photo album so check that out - if you have photos to share then please send to us and we will add them to the album.
