We got the following game report from Coach Glenn of our U17 boys team:
In what was a beautiful Sunday afternoon and a perfect one for a rugby outing, the Jr. Bears took on a strong collaborative team of Westshore and Cowichan, which made for a formidable opponent. Though the end score was lopsided and I personally was too engaged in the game to do a proper blow by blow review, it was an overall well-contested game with lots of pressure from both teams.
The Bays had many goal line stances that kept the opposition out of the end zone until the very last play of the game, they never stopped pressuring! Ultimately though It was the Blue back line that dominated and the biggest difference in the game. With ball in hand they moved it for many touches and scored some pretty tries, including a pass kick.
Not to take anything away from the forwards, with number eight Noah Kynasten scoring twice and nearly adding a third. Loose head prop Thor Noble also has some big runs, scoring once and with another glorious line break where he bosched a few individuals but ultimately came up lame with a cramp in his calf. One might have thought an offload would have prevented that injury, but not the coach!
Some key players were missing in the forward pack and it showed as the boys were all over the map at times, occasionally being out rucked which is sacrilege as a Bay. In the end, the Monsters of MacDonald Park roared to a 43 to 7 win with a huge tilt against rival CW next week in an away game at Windsor Park.
Today’s game ball goes to Matthew Bennett with 2 tries and 3 kicks, dude you are money and that is not to mention some of those shoe string tackles!
Huddy, huddy!
