It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of one of our own, Bay Blue through and through, Ed Barlow. Please join us at a Celebration of Life for Ed at JBAA Clubhouse on August 10th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
From Lou Madley’s book “JBAA The First Hundred Years”, published in 1987, a profile about Ed:
Ed played rugby as a school boy and during his early years in the Navy. In the mid seventies one of his sons was playing for JBAA and this rekindled Ed’s interest in the game and developed into active support for the club.
In the 1981-82 season, he worked with Jim Hubbard looking after the second division side and the following season was club secretary and manager of the second division side. The season of 1983-84 saw Ed elected President of JBAA in addition to managing the first division side. In this, his thrid year as President, Ed played a major role, both administratively and physically, in the reconstruction of the JBAA clubhouse. Among his many activities with the club, he accompanied the team on its tour of New Zealand.
Lou goes on to describe Ed’s role as President of the club during the period of 1983 through to 1986 as:
… vital to the success of the centennial celebrations. He has steered the club successfully during a most difficult and onerous period of its history.
More information about Ed can be found in his obituary available here.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to JBAA Junior Rugby Program.
