In what we hope will become an annual tradition, we pulled out all of the club’s many, many trophies, polished them up, and displayed them outside the clubhouse.
The event was spearheaded by our President, John de Goede, who got things started early with the trophy polishing at 10 a.m. The weather started out overcast, and it turns out that’s perfect for polishing silver! After several hours, and many helpful volunteers - including a small group of our youth players - we had polished every. single. trophy.
John had put out word to Chek News - figuring it was going to be a slow sports day (that’s a Covid 19 joke) - and they showed up as the polishing was underway.
As the sun broke through the clouds, the trophies were glimmering in the sunlight, proudly on display as the neighbours stopped to take a look (and a few photos). There is a long, storied, history that is told by these trophies, and they are certainly a priceless treasure for our club. Taking them out of the musty showcases, cleaning them up, and showing them off was a wonderful way to contribute to celebrating Canada Day.
