We have a great program run by former players with a proven track record of competitive play, skill development and teambuilding. Though rugby is an evasion sport, learning how to prepare yourself for contact as a ball carrier or tackler is a big safety and skill focus. Fitness plays a key role in our success as we strive to excel at all levels of the game. Whether you are new to rugby or a player moving up to a different age group, we will find a position for you.

We are the Bays and we have a passion for rugby.

Junior Teams

The BC Rugby league play starts in September and ends in December. The focus for the spring session is on training which is coordinated around the school rugby season and for this reason there is no club league play from January to April.

Our teams look for opportunities for tournament and exhibition games in the late spring and early summer, after the school season has concluded.

BC Rugby has changed the age grades for the 2022-23 season and the boys are now aligned to the same age bands as the girls.

The BCRU has also changed the U19 age band and dropped it down to U18; HOWEVER, overage players can still play with U18 and we are accepting registrations from 18 year old players for this team. Players will sufficient skill and physical size who are ready for senior mens rugby may be moved up after we have had time to evaluate.

Mighty Minis

Mini parents are always expressing their delight with an athletic program committed to fun, fitness and friendship. We make rugby FUN! It’s all about the smile.

Mini rugby is non-contact rugby.

Our Mighty Minis coaching staff include former Canadian International players and NCCP qualified coaches with small coach to player ratios. All of our coaches are Rugby Ready certified to ensure all of our players are physically fit to play and employ correct and safe techniques while playing. We do all of this to prevent, mitigate and manage injuries.

Jamborees are mini tournaments where we get together with other south island clubs and play fun games in a round robin style. Typically there are about 3 jamborees in the fall and another 3 in the spring. Schedules are announced late September and early February. U6 kids do not participate in Jamborees.

When we aren’t at a Jamboree, all sessions are at MacDonald Park in James Bay (205 Simcoe Street).

Schedule:

  • Sundays - 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

    • U12s go till 11:30

  • September to end of April with break for December and January

  • Sessions start September 10, 2023

Players are grouped into the following age groups:

  • U12 - split by gender

  • U10 - mixed genders

  • U8 - mixed genders

  • U6 - mixed genders

Kids that are under 6 will not participate in the Jamborees. We require parents of kids in this age group to remain at Minis in case they are needed or get tuckered out before the session ends.
